At the Essex Tridents, we believe the life lessons of the gridiron—discipline, teamwork, and resilience—should be available to every young person in Essex. However, American Football comes with a unique challenge: the high cost of safety.
With the help of the Sport England Movement Fund, we have launched our Youth Academy Essential Equipment Fund to ensure our players stay safe and our sport stays accessible.
Breaking the Financial Barrier
For a youth player to purchase their own high-quality helmet and pads, the cost can easily exceed £500. This is a massive barrier for many families, especially as young athletes in our Youth Academy quickly outgrow their gear.
Our mission is to remove that barrier. By building a club "library" of modern, certified helmets, we provide the necessary protection for our players. We want to ensure that the only thing a teenager needs to bring to the field is heart and a willingness to learn—not a heavy price tag.
How Sport England is Helping Us
We have an incredible opportunity to double our impact through the Sport England Movement Fund. Sport England recognizes the importance of grassroots sports and has pledged to back our vision—but we need your help to unlock their support.
The Goal: We need to raise £3,450 from our community. Once we hit this milestone, Sport England will match it with another £3,450, reaching our total goal of £6,900. This funding is vital to secure 25 brand-new, top-tier helmets that will protect our Youth Academy for the next decade.
